W obronie krzyża

Ok cool! I like to get the boxed series from the dvd outlet and watch it in its entirety over the week/end with caramel praline ice-cream and popcorn.

Anyone watch 'Little Britain'? It's a bit like 'Black Adder' with Rowan Atkinson. I stopped watching a lot of Brit programmes because they sucked, then I realised American programming was getting quite good because the English were writing shows for US TV... but I'm happy to see the return of the Brit talent pool to NZ television like 'Little Britain'.

Oh, and I love 'Ugly Betty' so far... :good:

Grey's Anatomy and Ugly Betty are back to back where I am, and I love these shows, especially Ugly Betty! Amerika something (dont know her last name) who plays Betty, won a Golden Globes award for this show in the category of best actress, I believe. She delivered a great speech saying how this show wants to show how far women can go in thw world, and how beauty is more than just what's on the outside.

I used TVersity for a long time. For Mac, I much prefer MediaLink over PS3MediaServer. MediaLink is not free, but it works much, much better.

Plex has basic DLNA function, just not transcoding. If your media player can handle mkv files and subtitle files, then the transcoding wouldn't even be necessary.

However, I absolutely love Plex' interface. I know the product comes from a long line rooted in XBMC, but I've really got to give props to the developers for such a beautiful and functional application. I'm probably going to invest in a Mac mini and some external hard drives to implement Plex in the living room. However, in keeping with the original "idea," another solution would be something akin to wireless HDMI.

In other words, it's easy enough to switch a television, (and audio receiver,) from one input source to another. But, if you want to run Plex on a computer that is not in the living room, then an ethernet or wireless method to connect the video output of the Mac to the TV is required.

HDMI cables can be purchased in pretty long lengths, but I think there's a transmission length limit. Besides, that could be rather clunky from one room to another. My house is already hard-wired with gigabit ethernet from the router to the living room.

Any ideas? Is there a way to send Plex video output (DVI/HDMI) over ethernet, or wireless? Perhaps this is beyond a Plex "feature request," but it's a continuing development of the original idea.

In my case, I'm not replacing an old disk with a new one. I just wanted to move off the television files to a new drive, so that movies are on one drive and television on another.

As JayBird mentioned, I could just add a folder from the spacious disk as a TV source. I could probably create a symbolic link from the old location to the new one so it looks transparent.

The only problem is I'm an organized freak and the idea seems messy to me :P so I'll probably just move the files and spend some time rescanning. It'll give me a good reason to rename some of those series that don't match up by default whilst I'm at it...

My Mac seems to make a very faint humming noise through the left and right channel speakers. It is only noticable when there is no or very faint sound. It makes this noise even when I mute the computer. I have the audio on from my Mac connected to television and then my television is connected to my sound system (Logitech Z-5500). It did this with my last sound system but the speakers were so bad I just never paid much attention.

Anyway, has anyone had this problem. Could it be my audio connection between my Mac and TV? The wire is a simple audio jack that splits into left and right.

I have exactly the same problem when I connect my new MacBook Air to the TV, I think it's a leopard issue...

Well anyone in Sweden that has a TV (or radio) is also forced to pay a tax for state programming, still they offer high quality streaming of many programs even outside Sweden.. I don't care, why would you? You think like 10 pence of what you pay goes to the extra cost of streaming worldwide?.. it's not like the whole world is gonna go bananas and watch BBC just because they can.

Simply because the BBC makes quite a bit of money selling the rights to BBC programmes to other countries and does a nice line of DVDs. If they started giving it all away then they would need to generate extra revenue in some way. That would likely result in an increase in the fee (if allowed) or a drop in quality/output.

Absolutely no disrespect intended to Sweden but I suspect the language issue reduces the demand for Swedish programming within the wider global economy. So the world wide streaming demand is probably limited, in the majority, to Swedish-expats.

I should probably add that I'm not a big fan of licensed fee based television that results in "stars" getting very large sums of money (e.g. Jonathan Ross). Tax based programming really shouldn't be paying a fortune to these presenters - that's what advert or subscription based tv should be for.

(sorry mods - I know this has drifted rather off topic!)

Greetings, I am new to the Plex community and I love it very much. I have a question about Media Hound. Does it work over my network? or do I need to be pointing it at my mini to get it to go? I know this sounds insanely noobile, but I come from the world of apple TV and used Apple's Remote app, and loved it for music. Being that most parties are centered in my kitchen, not in the living room it was great to be able to change songs from the iphone. Does media hound do that? Thanks in advance!

Bob

Media Hound connects over WiFi. You don't need line of sight to your computer. You don't even need to be able to see your screen or television.
It's one of the big advantages Media Hound has over conventional 'direction-arrow' remotes.
Hope that helps and welcome to the forums :)

First mind you, regional code (also called regional locking or regional scrambling) and PAL/NTSC encoding are two completely different things. They don't affect each other.

I have a macbook with superdrive, and it is set to play region 2 DVDs, great, I can watch films from europe!
but Japan is also region 2. so I can play them too! or can I?

Yes you can. When the DVD region code and the player's region code are equal you can watch the DVD.
Regional code was created as a commercial tool to prevent (Hollywood) movies spreading to "wrong" regions on imported DVDs before their planned movie theater premier. Did never work too well, I'm afraid. http://forum.nightwish-world.com/public/style_emoticons/default/post-84-125168357274.gif

Coz europe plays in PAL, and japan uses NTSC, so if I put in a japanese disk, will I be asked to change regions or not?

No.

PAL and NTSC are old analogue television encoding systems for adding colour information to analog TV signal. When you watch a DVD on a computer utilizing a videocard and a monitor, it will not handle any analog data. So, it doesn't matter wether the DVD is PAL or NTSC encoded.

Ps - wystarczy w wyszukiwarkę wpisać np. "kabel VGA VGA" i już masz... .

jasne; vga->vga = d-sub
