Microsoft Judge Orders Split Into
                   Two Parts, Calls Company
                   `Untrustworthy'
Microsoft Corp. must be split into two companies to
restore software competition, a federal judge ruled
today, ordering the first antitrust breakup since
                   American Telephone and Telegraph Co.
                   disbanded in 1984. More...

Sedzia Jackson nazwal M$ niewiarygodnym monopolista.

Prosba tylko do programistow o powstrzymanie sie od komentarzy, ze
Microsoft nie ma nic wspolnego z programowaniem.

Microsoft ma wstrzymac za 6 miesiecy dystrybucje systemu operacyjnego
aby zmienic kod i odinstalowac Internet Explorer z Winjdowsow.

Poza tym to o czym pisalem.
Podzial oznacza rowniez odejscie pracownikow
i nie wiadomo kto i kiedy bedzie sie zajmowal dotychczasowym supportem
on-line.
Mysle o biurze europejskim w Irlandii i biurze d/s europy wschodniej w
Holandii.

| lineman

Lineman to czlowiek ktory lazi po slupach elektrycznych, najczesciej z
elektrowni.

staroswieckie "phone repairman".

proszę o przetłumaczenie na język polski
Digital telephony is a technology used in the provision of digital telephone
services and systems. Since the 1960s it has almost entirely replaced the old
telephone system that used analog telephony. It was introduced to improve
voice services, but was then found to be of great value to new network
services that needed to speedily transfer data over telephone lines.

Dziękuję

I na podsumowanie cytat z innego forum.

Said Elaine Edwards of Mink, La., one of the last remaining places in the
country to be without telephone service, until lines were installed in January:
"It wasn't 15 minutes after that phone was in before a telemarketer called me."

Pokornie proszę o wyjasnienie, dlaczego ludzie na linmodems.org twierdzą, że
taki modem może nawet chodzić szybciej niż normalny. Piszą, żę dla modem
softwarowy byłby nawet lepszy, cytuję:

No coz, reklame wszedzie mozna spotkac ...

Doing so has many advantages:
This code would work with any "winmodem" hardware, provided that we know how
to make it send and receive samples (as a soundcard) to the telephone line.
Unlike the "winmodems", the linmodem would gracefuly integrate into the
kernel code. In particular, we could bypass the horrible "Hayes" commands
and dialog directly with the ppp driver, as does the ISDN stack of linux.
Moreover, the V42 stuff (LAPM - error correction) could be merged with the
LAPB or LAPD protocols which already exists in the kernel for AX25 and ISDN.
Finally, the DSP modulation/demodulation stuff could be merged with the
"soundmodem" code from the hamradio team.
The linmodem could communicate with the ISDN layer in voice mode. It means
that the linux ISDN stack would be able to make a data call to an analog
modem.
It gives us a total control over the modem code and the ability to develop
our own "linux modem" protocols, which could potentially be more efficient
than the ITU standards. In particular, we could improve the time of the
connection set up of V34 by using a low speed at the beginning and
increasing it by progressive training.
Many applications can come from an open modem. In particular, ISPs could use
this code to have inexpensive Linux based modem arrays.

Szczegolnie mi sie podoba ostatnie zdanie. Ciekawe jakiego sprzetu by
wymagala bateria np. 64 takich modemow...
"inexpensive" 64 CPU ?
