Telerama Programme Tv

W obronie krzyża

Ok cool! I like to get the boxed series from the dvd outlet and watch it in its entirety over the week/end with caramel praline ice-cream and popcorn.

Anyone watch 'Little Britain'? It's a bit like 'Black Adder' with Rowan Atkinson. I stopped watching a lot of Brit programmes because they sucked, then I realised American programming was getting quite good because the English were writing shows for US TV... but I'm happy to see the return of the Brit talent pool to NZ television like 'Little Britain'.

Oh, and I love 'Ugly Betty' so far... :good:

Grey's Anatomy and Ugly Betty are back to back where I am, and I love these shows, especially Ugly Betty! Amerika something (dont know her last name) who plays Betty, won a Golden Globes award for this show in the category of best actress, I believe. She delivered a great speech saying how this show wants to show how far women can go in thw world, and how beauty is more than just what's on the outside.

Well anyone in Sweden that has a TV (or radio) is also forced to pay a tax for state programming, still they offer high quality streaming of many programs even outside Sweden.. I don't care, why would you? You think like 10 pence of what you pay goes to the extra cost of streaming worldwide?.. it's not like the whole world is gonna go bananas and watch BBC just because they can.

Simply because the BBC makes quite a bit of money selling the rights to BBC programmes to other countries and does a nice line of DVDs. If they started giving it all away then they would need to generate extra revenue in some way. That would likely result in an increase in the fee (if allowed) or a drop in quality/output.

Absolutely no disrespect intended to Sweden but I suspect the language issue reduces the demand for Swedish programming within the wider global economy. So the world wide streaming demand is probably limited, in the majority, to Swedish-expats.

I should probably add that I'm not a big fan of licensed fee based television that results in "stars" getting very large sums of money (e.g. Jonathan Ross). Tax based programming really shouldn't be paying a fortune to these presenters - that's what advert or subscription based tv should be for.

(sorry mods - I know this has drifted rather off topic!)

Hi

As my television reception seems to get progressively worse as the weather improves, I have been using plex to stream TV quite a lot! The BBC iPlayer plugin works wonders, but there seems to be an issue with 4od - Channel 4's on demand service.

The App installs okay, and picks up the names of the categories, but there are no programmes inside the categories! I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but to no avail

Can anybody shed any light on this? All other searches just seem to find threads that indicate the plug-in works, but for me it definitely will not

Thanks
Jon

I really do wish we had some way of finding out when Michael will be appearing on tv shows over here. I was out shopping this morning when I walked past the window of a tv store only to find Mr Buble himself staring out at me! He was on This Morning - a daily television programme in the UK. I think he was just about to sing! Did anyone see it?

Spain likes TV education

Education through the TV (T-Education) is an “excellent example” of the possibilities of interactive television for certain uses, the 3rd Interactivity and DTT Congress of AlcĂĄzar Digital heard last week.

The technology is ideal for such applications as language teaching or for some users such as carers who may have restricted access to the outside world.

T-Education is also a key way to promote the DVB standard in Latin American from Spain, the Congres heard.

These conclusions coincided with Spain's national public broadcaster launching its first interactive application to facilitate DTT access for the visually impaired. The application also helps them find employment.

The application is named 'Emplea-T Accesible' and is based in graphics and off-voicing to guide blind users.

At present the public broadcaster is working on a TV set prototype as the second phase of this project centred in the specification, prototyping and manufacturing of a digital TV set accessible to all disabled people. The job-finding application has been developed under the MHP standard by RTVE in collaboration with the National Employment Institute (INEM) and was tested for the first time on TVE's programme AquĂ Hay Trabajo (Here There Is Work). This application allows users to consult around 1,500 daily job adverts.

TF1 wants to lead web news

Ready with its new management, loyal to its programmes, TF1 announced last week that the new 2008-2009 season would be marked by a visible advancement in terms of new media and technologies.

Claiming its leading position in the audiovisual market, TF1, with schedules based on entertainment and reality TV, dramas and series, as well as news, will bring a few novelties like the adaptation of formats such as Dance Floor and the launch of daily serial Seconde Chance, but no revolution.

Major evolution will come from its web strategy. The French network is thus about to launch online its third news edition, the “JT Off” and expects to become a leader of news online within the next 18 months.

TF1 is also preparing the launch next January of a new web portal. The network also stressed that it would raise the proportion of programming in itrs HD feed in the coming months to reach 50% in 2009. “It’s the way of a spectacular television,” CEO Nonce Paolini asserted.

China Digital TV CA systems throughout China

China Digital TV Holding, provider of conditional access systems to China's expanding digital television market, has been selected by China Satellite Mobile Broadcasting Corporation (CSM), a company under China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT), to provide CA systems to mobile TV networks throughout China. System installation is expected to be completed by the end of 2009.

China Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting (CMMB) is a home-grown standard for mobile TV broadcasting. With built-in CMMB modules, handheld devices such as mobile phones, PDAs and GPSs will be able to receive live TV programmes and multimedia data. As of today, nearly 200 cities in China are covered by local CMMB networks and the number of cities is expected to reach 337 by the end of 2009.
